Why I Wrote Warrior Clans of the Ancient Archipelago
The history of Filipino martial arts is often told through modern systems, schools, and recognized lineages. However, the warrior traditions behind them began much earlier.
I wrote Warrior Clans of the Ancient Archipelago to examine the warrior societies and fighting traditions of Lukon/Luçon (Luzon), the Visayas, Mindanao, and the Sulu Islands.
The book explores warfare, weapons, resistance, regional exchange, lineage, and cultural transmission across different periods of Philippine history.
My purpose was not to force every tradition into a single origin or present speculation as established fact. It was to provide a broader historical setting for understanding how these traditions helped shape modern Filipino martial arts.
For martial artists, researchers, and history readers, this book offers a journey into the warrior worlds that existed before the modern schools.
If you would like to explore these earlier warrior traditions, paperback and hardcover editions are available exclusively on Amazon here: https://a.co/d/0erdZume
